Our History

The Business Mentors New Zealand (BMNZ) service is owned and operated by the Business Mentors New Zealand Ltd and was established in 1991 to provide a voluntary mentoring service to New Zealand SME businesses.

The business mentoring service was introduced into New Zealand by Dr Grahame Craig, BMNZ’s current Chairman of Trustees, and was based on the concept of Business In The Community English and European models established in 1979.

From the start, Business Mentors New Zealand set out to fulfil a major need in New Zealand to assist the owners of SME businesses to survive and grow, and accordingly, to create employment opportunities in urban and rural communities.

Today we have mentored over 70,000 SME businesses including not-for-profit entities and work closely with the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, and the Inland Revenue Department.
